Wild chinchillas, which are rodents,
are native to Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile in the high
altitudes of the Andes Mountains, but domestic chins have
been in America since the early 1900's. Simmy was given up
by his owners in July of 2007, because they just didn't
have time to care for him any longer. Fur doesn't get much
softer than this, folks! In fact, chinchillas are prized
for their fur. It takes just over 100 to make a single
coat. But Simmy is safe with us. Although he's pretty
shy, he'll hold still while you feel his beautiful fur.
And after we put him away, he'll take a nice dust bath
to remove all of the oil from his coat.
