Kate lived with a very special person.
As you can see from some of the other rescues, not all rescued
critters come from abused or neglected homes. Most come from
very loving people who cared for their exotic pets wonderfully.
But sometimes, through no fault of their own, the animals are
faced with an uncertain future. Kate belonged to my dear friend
Kathy Borowski, Bridgeview, Illinois' Animal Control Officer.
In September 1999, Kathy died suddenly of a heart attack. She
was not even 50 years old. Not only did hundreds of people
suffer by the great loss of such a wonderful person, but so did
her animals who were so pampered and loved by Kathy. We were
fortunate to have Kate come live with us. She acts more like a
dog than a fox. In the winter of 2002 Kate was finally
integrated in with
Sterling,
Silver and
Ghost. Up until then
she'd been housed alone. She just doesn't like other foxes. She
still doesn't, but she tolerates them much better and only
vocalizes her complaints. Kate has special privileges, like
supervised free run of the tall fenced yard. She wags her tail
and will collapse on her belly and roll over for belly rubs.
All the years Kathy had Kate, she believed Kate was an arctic
fox. She is almost identical to Ghost, but is much smaller.
Kate and I sorely miss Kathy :-( We estimate Kate to have been
born in the spring of 1995 or 1996.
