Got a call from Palos Hills Animal Control one night asking me to identify a snake that was hanging out in a tree. “It’s black and white! Is it poisonous?” she asked. Nope! I knew right away Pablo was a California kingsnake by the way she described his markings, and he was just a tiny yearling at the time that someone had him let loose or he’d gotten loose somehow. Still, the police noosed him with a rope to catch him. We’ve had him ever since, and he’s grown like a weed. Today he’s about 7-8 years old.
