Beecher resident Ally heard about AFA from our faithful volunteer
Janett. Now Ally, who's sponsored by Janett, has been hanging out
with AFA since she saw us perform an educational program at the
Beecher Public Library in early 2005. Ally, who seems to be the
busiest 15 year old we know, comes out on Sundays whenever she gets
some free time. She's hardworking and always gets the job done;
cleaning cages, feeding the animals and grooming the miniature
horses. Her favorite animal is Kodiak the lynx, but she also likes
the hedgehogs and the other wild cats.
Says Ally, "My favorite part about AFA is
seeing, playing, and being with all of the animals. I also like
learning about the animals, and I try to learn all of their names but
I still can't remember some of them. AFA is different because they let
you handle the animals where like in other places you can't even get
close to the animals. There are also a lot of different animals that
I had never heard of before." If you ask her she'll tell you that her
least favorite thing about AFA are certain smells encountered during
cleaning, especially the foxes. We admit that they're the stinkiest
of them all! In fact, says Ally, her first day with the foxes is probably
her most memorable moment at AFA thus far. But still, she and Janett had
a great time laughing about it all.
When Ally isn't slaving away at AFA, she's
doing some pretty cool stuff like going to school, playing teams sports
such as basketball, volleyball running cross country and track, and
riding/grooming her own horses. That's right. In addition
to a whole lot of cats, Ally has 4 beautiful horses named "Annabelle",
"Gracey", "Abby" and "Charlie".
Ally may not know what her long term goals
are for herself, but she hopes to become more involved with AFA and
even be able to drive out once she gets her driver's license. She
definitely plans to work more with the horses!
How does Ally sum up her feelings about AFA?
"I love AFA and I think it's a great place!!! I am glad that I am able
to go there and be with the animals!!!!"
And how does AFA sum up Ally? She's one of
the most reliable and most hardworking kids we know. We're blessed to
have her on our team. Ally takes on every task we request, and she
never complains one bit! We all smile when she walks through the
door!
